Our Story

Sweet Bones was started by Emily and Russell Brindley back in 2011. Em did the baking, while Russ handled deliveries to cafés across Canberra. In November 2012, they opened their first bricks-and-mortar shop in the temporary Lonsdale Street Traders building, before moving into a permanent home in Braddon in October 2014.

In November 2018, they released Sweet Bones: The Cookbook (now sold out!). Then, in May 2022, they opened their Scullin location, beginning a new chapter for the business. In 2024, they tearfully farewelled the Braddon shop to focus their energy on what was growing in Scullin.

Somewhere along the way, Scullin became much more than just another shop. It’s home in every sense of the word: where Emily and Russell live, where their family life unfolds, and where Sweet Bones has found its place in the local community. The café has become their home base and creative studio, a place to dream up new ideas, experiment with recipes, host events and connect with others in the community. 

Today, Sweet Bones is proudly at home in Scullin: a bakery, café, creative playground and community gathering place, all rolled into one.
